Bonnie shook her head again as if
to clear it but it seemed to be no use, her eyes held to the shadow of the
ghost that claimed her subconscious. The one that tortured her thoughts on a
regular basis, She had saved him, kept Klaus on this earth so he could continue
his torture and for what? She turned away from Damon’s prying gaze. She felt the
full weight of his cerulean hues digging into the back of her head as she not
only heard but felt him step forward.
“Look I get it alright, you hate
me. I did a lot of bad things,” his words tapered off as he ran a hand through
his dark hair. “The most recent of which coming down hard on you,” his words
cut off again. Damon rarely apologizes for his misconduct. He’s a vampire,
which would always be his excuse. Vampires don’t follow the same rules as
humans, that don’t have to. However, lately he’s found that he held far more
remorse for his past wrong doings than he ever thought possible.
He lifted a hand to touch her and
stopped himself, allowing it to falls weightlessly to his side, “I know how you
must hate me and to be honest it’s probably no more than I hate myself.” Bonnie
turned abruptly, her coffee tinted hues shooting daggers at him. “Don’t assume
you have any idea how I feel Damon!” he took a step back, recalculating his
words.
“Alright, fine. I don’t know how
you feel but let’s take a walk down memory lane for a minute shall we…” He
offered, she crossed her arms, as if allowing him this small consolation. “I
lost both my parents too, Stefan killed my father /after/ my father killed me.
The woman I managed to love through my seething hatred both chose Stefan… the
‘Good Brother.” He gestured quotations around the words ‘good brother’ for
obvious reasons.
Bonnie acknowledged what he was
saying and nodded her head as a sign he could go on. “I’m not making excuses
for my actions, there are none… but I never intentionally set out to hurt you.”
Damon clamped his mouth shut… Bonnie dropped her arms, a deep sigh spilling
from her parted lips. “You did it to save her, I know.” She recognized. “I
understand why you’ve become the monster that stands before me,” Damon’s fierce
gaze cut her off, the word ‘monster’ lighting a fire in him.
“Being what I am doesn’t make me a
monster… I know I’ve been one in the past but why is it so impossible for
people to look past Stefan’s mistake but refuse to see past my own?” he
demands, she purses her lips as if to consider that. “I don’t know.” She
answers honestly, he had a point but as it was she would still be more likely
to hate them /both/ than to simply accept Damon for who he was.
They both knew that and seemed to come
to that realization in the same moment. Damon tosses up his hands, frustration
prevalent across her features. “That’s all irrelevant right now,” he admits.
“Right now we need to figure out what’s going on with you…” She concedes to
that fact, shifting from one foot to the other uncomfortably as she tries to
think over what has happened.
“I can’t remember it all, I went to
Caroline’s…” Bonnie looks away, her countenance twisting with confusion. “I
don’t know why, she had something I needed, I think.” Amber hues lock with his
cobalt irises, “An amulet…Lux lunae”
“Light of the moon…” They both say
together.
